In American culture, Halloween has become synonymous with an overindulgence of overly-processed candy, soda, and junk food. But it doesn't have to be that way! There are lots of prepackaged goodies that are both tasty and more health-conscious to give away to trick-or-treaters who expect sweet treats. Here are just a few that we carry in our bulk bins at Sunflower.
Reed's Ginger Chew Candies | Sesame Sticks | McCrae's Caramels
We also have chocolate coconut Oskri bars (SO yummy) which are similar to Mounds, but with many fewer ingredients. If you want to create a healthier Halloween in your neighborhood, that'll solve your trick-or-treating woes! Then, with a little creativity, you could turn whole foods into adorable party treats.
Here are a few ideas for your Halloween gathering:
Banana ghosts and clementine pumpkins! These two treats would be so simple - the most difficult part being peeling the fruit! For the bananas you'll need chocolate chips to stick upside down into the banana as eyes and a mouth. Use celery bits for the pumpkin stalks. Simple, and much healthier than most other Halloween treats.
Mummy toast makes an excellent pizza-like snack. It's easy to toast many pieces of bread on a baking sheet in the oven (at a low temperature). When the toast is slightly brown, remove them from the oven, add tomato sauce, cheese strips, and olives for eyes! Speaking of olives, healthy Halloween snacks won't get easier than these olive and cheese kabobs!
These charming carrot fingers are accentuated with almond sliver fingernails (adhered with your dip of choice). Again, they're simple, but they have a great effect, don't they? For more healthy halloween ideas, check out our Pinboard, then come on in to Sunflower to grab your necessary ingredients!
Have a happy, healthy Halloween,
